A pioneering initiative for the Fashion industry in Shanghai !
How to recruit fashion talents more efficiently? The 1st edition of Style-jobs Shanghai, an exclusive career fair for fashion professionals, organized by the trend agency Style-Vision Asia, was successfully held on January 22nd in ShanghaiMart in Shanghai.
SHANGHAI, China – Style-jobs Shanghai was created by the trend agency Style-Vision to address the recruitment challenge of the fashion industry and connect, for one day only, leading fashion companies with qualified fashion talents.
The first edition took place on January 22nd in ShanghaiMart in Shanghai and gathered around 100 job-seeking fashion professionals and leading fashion brands including ZUCZUG, Cache-Cache, Bonobo, Metersbonwe, Blackgateone, Macchiato and Glamour-sales. The event started with the opening speech of the organizer Ms. Genevieve Flaven from Style-vision Asia and the inspiring interview of Nange Angel, the Chairman of Shengwuyouxin Cultural Communication who shared the secret of her successful career.
Waiting in line patiently and networking actively with their peers, well-prepared job-seeking professionals came and presented their resumes and portfolios. In only 4 hours, each participating brand interviewed dozens of potential candidates with verified academic background and a large range of skills including fashion design, styling, procurement or visual merchandising.
The event was highly valued by the attendees. Peggy Lyon, product offer director at Bonobo emphasized that Style-jobs Shanghai gave her the possibility to judge creative talents immediately and directly from a fashion and creative perspective. Ms. Lyon as well as Ms. Winnie XU from ZUCZUG’s HR director, agreed to say that the fair increases the efficiency of the recruitment process and represented a significant gain of time.
Jelena Salai, design director at Metersbonwe gave her endorsement to the event. “There are all kind of job fairs….so why not in fashion? Style-jobs Shanghai is a truly pioneering initiative for Shanghai Fashion industry. ”
As the first edition of Style-Jobs Shanghai was open to young designers newly graduated from fashion schools, many participants had only limited professional experience in fashion and the senior profiles were less represented. However, everyone in fashion agreed that this is the reality of the market and most brands in China have to integrate many junior designers in their teams. “Style-jobs Shanghai is like an incubator. It provides us abundant resources to select young design assistants with good potential.” said Nathalie FELTEN, product offer director at Cache-Cache.
In her opening speech, Nange Angel described the steps of her fashion career and define the true meaning of success. She underlined the importance of dream and devotion to art rather than pure careerism. She explained that what motivates and encourages designers is to “Be needed”. “Everyone should be needed by others. Each designer should be needed by their boss and their company. Just like Style-Vision Asia is needed by Shanghai fashion industry.” she said.
